Celebrity Plastic Surgery - Calamity Or Vanity?Do you notice something whenever you turn on the TV, browse magazines, get online or see billboards? Everywhere you look you see pictures of celebrities -- each one of them looking young, beautiful and perfect. Society worships these celebrities. Ordinary people, mostly the young, want to look like them and be like them. These seemingly perfect celebrities are the objects of admiration and fantasies. The ugly truth is that a lot of these celebrities have undergone celebrity plastic surgery and have taken drugs in order for them to look really good. For a lot of them, undergoing celebrity plastic surgery is something they do for vanity's sake. They are celebrities so they have to not only look good...they have to look perfect. Those who are opposed to celebrity plastic surgery would ask what has happened to being happy and thankful with what a person has. A lot of people would think that celebrity plastic surgery and other cosmetic surgery procedures have simply gotten out of control. Plastic surgery, however, has practical purposes. For instance, plastic surgery has helped people who have a cleft palate scar or deviated septum. Plastic surgery is actually a good thing to do for patients who have birth abnormalities; only a surgical procedure could help them look more normal or not out of the ordinary. For these people, it is clear that plastic surgery has practical, worthwhile purposes. Plastic surgery then becomes a need, not merely a desire or a whim. When plastic surgery is used for the purpose of satisfying one's vanity, it then loses its value. Today, plastic surgery has become routine and superficial -- some people undergo plastic surgery because they want their nose or ears a little smaller, some want bigger breasts or buttocks, others want to be wrinkle free, others want fuller lips, and so on. All these could perhaps be blamed on celebrity plastic surgery. Could anyone still recognize Joan Rivers after all the celebrity plastic surgeries she's had? And who can forget Michael Jackson? The numerous celebrity plastic surgeries he's had over the years have made him look a complete mess. It's a shame that celebrities are setting a bad example to people, particularly the younger generation. |
